Northampton Center for the Arts is excited to present Danielle Parent’s “The Art of Surviving” at the Barn Door Gallery. This exhibit showcases her art as it gives her a place to reflect on her experiences, including her queer identity, and as a reprieve following her cancer diagnosis and surviving Non-Hodgkins T-cell Lymphoma twice,
In the Split Level Gallery, come see Jacqueline Gallo’s “The Tree Tarot: Into the Grove,” a visual journey into the unseen wisdom of trees and their folklore, weaving together their historical, mythological, and sacred symbolism across cultures. This exhibition showcases the full set of 78 tarot prints, inviting viewers to connect with nature’s hidden messages and mystical guidance.
Live music by Blackappella and POCappella
First formed in 2016, Blackappella is Smith College’s only Black a cappella group. Blackappella focuses on the importance of Black identity and history in its repertoire. Our group performs music rooted in the legacy of the Black community, including traditional spirituals, songs of resistance, and works by Black artists who have had a cultural impact. Follow them on YouTube and Instagram.
Formed in the fall of 2023, POCappella is Smith College's first a cappella group for students of color. We aim to welcome and represent the diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds of our broader student body in our repertoire. Our group performs songs from many artists of color and in different languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, Malay, and Hindi. Follow them on Instagram.
Young Artists Studio
Young Artists Studio from 5- 7 pm is a series of events at the Northampton Center for the Arts being offered in collaboration with the Teaching Artists Program (TAP) at Smith College through the Jandon Center Education Initiative. TAP is a new initiative where Smith College students teach visual arts in community-based and school contexts with mentorship and guidance from dedicated art educators.
