BARN DOOR GALLERY

Curatorial Committee

Are you passionate about art, community, and representation? Join the NCFA Curatorial Committee and help us make the Barn Door Gallery a vibrant, inclusive space!

WHO CAN JOIN?

Anyone from our community! If you love art and believe in amplifying local artists, we want you on our team.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • Applications are open all year—apply anytime! Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

  • Each spring, we invite new applicants to become Committee members.

  • Applicants not selected will remain on the list unless they request to be removed.

  • NCFA aims for each committee to reflect the diversity of our exhibiting artists: balanced representation of BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ members, as well as a mix of emerging and experienced artists, and arts appreciators. We recognize that these identities may intersect.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

In late spring, we will reach out to invite people who have applied to join the committee. Once the committee members are confirmed, we’ll ask you to:

  • Spend at least 30 minutes getting to know the Barn Door Gallery, NCFA’s mission and values, and its commitment to representation and creating a more equitable space.

  • Set aside about 2 hours to explore our resources on making art spaces more equitable—these are full of inspiration for curators who care.

  • Review the BDG applications for the year. Bring your shortlist: your top 6 to 10 solo artists, 4 to 6 group applications, and some fresh emerging talent.

Then in July, we’ll gather in person (with snacks!) to discuss the applications and advocate for compelling submissions.

As a thank you for your hard work, NCFA expresses its appreciation by throwing a group exhibit each January for participating committee members. Each Curatorial Committee can showcase either their own work or that of an artist they want to highlight in the January Barn Door Gallery exhibit. It’s a celebration to kick off a year of art you helped shape!  As an additional thank you for your hard work, NCFA will compensate community members on the Curatorial Committee with gift cards donated by generous local businesses.

Please remember that all applications and information shared with the Curatorial Committee are confidential and should not be shared with anyone outside the committee.
