IN-BETWEEN: WRITING AND ILLUMINATING YOUR WAY HOME
AN ART JOURNALING WORKSHOP FOR MULTICULTURAL FOLX
MONDAY, MAY 11TH, 6:30-8:30 PM
COST: $40 (INCLUDES MATERIALS)
TO REGISTER: EMAIL QUIRKY.ARTIST.CHRIS@GMAIL.COM
This workshop is for people from international countries who were raised in the United States but don't feel at home in their family's culture or their new adopted American culture. They're somewhere in between. We'll explore this internal struggle through writing exercises and art activities. (No writing or drawing experience is necessary). Participants will be provided with blank journals and other materials to create visual clues and guides for themselves. Along the way, they may discover that being in the middle is okay. Participants are encouraged to bring a small, personal item such as a photo, a family recipe, a piece of jewelry, or other keepsake that they can use as inspiration in a writing exercise.
This workshop is limited to 8 people. The minimum age is 15. Preregistration is required by email. This is a stand-alone workshop but a class may develop if there's enough interest.
About the instructor: Christine Mirabal is a self-educated Latina artist who's been painting for over three years. Her works have been in a number of group exhibits and she has had several solo shows. She enjoys painting landscapes, cityscapes, and feminist-centered art. She also expresses herself through paper by creating handmade journals, mini-zines, and inspiration cards. Her first love was writing and she's been journaling and penning stories and poems since she was a kid. In addition to visual art, Christine teaches and performs improv at Happier Valley Comedy.
