NOISE TRANSFER POLICY
(FLEX SPACE RENTALS ONLY)
The building at 33 Hawley features a metal roof, which can allow sound to travel between the Flex Space (managed by NCFA) and the Workroom (managed by A.P.E.).
To reduce noise transfer and ensure that both spaces can accommodate as much community art as possible, NCFA and A.P.E. have developed a shared schedule. We ask that all users of the Flex Space and Workroom follow this schedule.
Each organization (NCFA and A.P.E.) is allotted two amplified sound slots per day: one in the afternoon and one in the evening.
The schedule is as follows:
Two-hour sound slots: 2:00pm, 4:00pm, 6:00pm, and 8:00pm
When a time slot is booked by one organization, the other organization must maintain quiet in their respective space. When a performance or event is happening in one space, any activity in the other space must be quiet enough so there is no sound transfer (i.e., no amplified music — small group conversation is fine).
Important Clarification: The two-hour time slots listed above refer only to when amplified sound is permitted in the space. There are no limits on your total time in the building. Renters are welcome to be in the space outside of these time slots for setup, quiet rehearsals, and breakdown, as long as they are not using amplified or disruptive sound.
Performances/events longer than two hours must either:
Start before 2:00pm and finish by 4:00pm, OR
Start at 8:00pm, so that two earlier time slots remain available for the Workroom.
If you are only planning one performance on a given day, you may also be able to use both the 4:00pm and 6:00pm slots. This depends on availability.
Additional notes:
Time slots are available first-come, first-served.
We will do our best to accommodate your preferred time, but please be flexible in case your first choice is not available.
The 8:00pm slot has no set end time, since it is the last of the day. Events starting at 8:00pm can run longer than two hours if needed.
