The works of Hold Me Close spring from the desire to question an unthinkable and unknowable world and self. The presented work - a body of quilts, a collaborative “newspaper,” and a few ceramic sculptures - embraces a wide range of disparate parts into familiar and quotidian containers.

Worldly Considerations: Unusual Reflections Paintings and prints by Martha Braun can be seen in the Split Level Gallery. If one has a consistent practice, a curious mind, and a conscious awareness of one’s own personal aesthetic, one can make art out of anything. The “anythings” prevalent in this work are the old and supposedly ruined, things that have inherent to them a sense of the passage of time. This element of history creates a context in which the mystical content of the imagery can resonate.
